How will you deal with the transport issues?
Our plans include the creation of a major new interchange off the A1 and the village would be designed with this as the principal point of entry and exit. This would need to be constructed at the start of the project to allow construction traffic to access the site solely off the A1. There would also be access to the site from the Elton-Wansford road, but this – and the overall lay-out of the village – would be designed in a way to minimise use of this road.
We have had preliminary email discussions with Highways England and Cambridgeshire County Council and we can confirm that a junction on the A1 is feasible. We acknowledge that these conversations are preliminary - this is only an Expression of Interest. Any planning application would have to address this issue in detail and be made in the context of any other future plans for the A1 and other roads.
We also aim to provide community led travel options such as a exploring the potential for a fleet of electric/hybrid buses and an electric car pool for local travel/commuter needs and the provision of additional of bus services.
We would look very carefully and need to address all traffic impacts on the wider road network, including at Elton and Wansford and develop solutions for addressing these where necessary, including looking at the A605 junction and at Wansford bridge.
We cannot and will not ignore these issues and will have to find solutions acceptable to Highways England and the County Council Highways Authority if we are to gain a planning permission.
