What conversations have you had with Nene Valley Railway?
We have had some preliminary conversations with the chair and general manager at Nene Valley Railway about the possibility of delivering more services on the heritage railway to allow residents of Sibson to access Peterborough on the railway.
They have stated that:
“We are very interested in the proposals for a new garden village at Sibson, parts of which would be adjacent to our station at Wansford. We recognise that this would not only create a new market for our heritage steam attractions, but also provide the opportunity to expand our services."
“The existing rail line between Wansford and Peterborough is currently a single track railway with trains only capable of operating in one direction at a time with the exception of a short passing loop at Orton Mere. However, there is both space and opportunity to provide a second line along the majority of the existing track to enable trains to operate in both directions. This also includes adequate space under the existing bridges along the line. Hence there are several very viable options to double additional sections of the track to enable trains to pass each other and operate a more intensive service than is currently available."
“As the project goes forward, we would like the opportunity to be actively involved in exploring the opportunities to provide an upgraded rail service between the settlement and Peterborough city centre for recreational, business and leisure uses.”
